A Lawyer's Shelf Life

While reading about the downfall of Yankee shortstop, Derek Jeter I realized how fortunate we are as lawyers to have a long career. Jeter is widely regarded as the top shortstop of his generation. Nevertheless, he is in the twilight of his career before reaching the age of forty. Conversely, when a lawyer enters his/her 40's they are in the their peak professional years. An attorney's career is enhanced by their experience in the field and is not diminished by the fact that their physical tools are not what they were in their 20's or 30's. When I was younger I found it harder for people to hire me because I looked young. As grey hair starts sprouting I find that I look more like what clients think their lawyer should look like. Clients could care less how fast I can run, or high I can jump. They want proven results. After practicing for over 15 years I have seen a lot of different cases and situations. This allows me to adapt to each given case and achieve the results that my client's deserve when they hire me.
